Curriculum

The Curriculum That Makes Us A Blue Ribbon School

St. Cecelia Catholic School provides a rigorous academic curriculum for all students. Our curriculum provides for appropriate instruction based upon the state curriculum frameworks and course descriptions, the Florida Standards, the Diocesan Religion Standards, and the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards prescribed by the Florida Department of Education.  The standards are aligned with college and career readiness expectations. They are clear, understandable, and consistent.

St. Cecelia Catholic School is authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Programme in PreK-3 through grade 8.  The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is taught in Prek 3 – grade 5.   The PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.  The five essential elements of the PYP are:

  • knowledge, which is both disciplinary, represented by traditional subject areas (language, maths, science, social studies, arts, PSPE) and transdisciplinary
  • concepts, which students explore through structured inquiry in order to develop coherent, in-depth understanding, and which have relevance both within and beyond subject areas
  • skills, which are the broad capabilities students develop and apply during learning and in life beyond the classroom
  • attitudes, which contribute to international-mindedness and the wellbeing of individuals and learning communities,  and connect directly to the IB learner profile
  • action, which is an expectation in the PYP that successful inquiry leads to responsible, thoughtful and appropriate action.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is taught in grades 6-8.

Using global contexts, MYP students develop an understanding of:

  • identities and relationships
  • personal and cultural expression
  • orientations in space and time
  • scientific and technical innovation
  • fairness and development
  • globalization and sustainability.
